He battled tenaciously under a strong ride after hitting the front inside the final furlong to hold all challengers and certainly appreciated this drop in trip. He reportedly struggled to stay 1m4f on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury in the John Porter and, while he would appear to have enough speed for 1m, this 1m2f trip played to his strengths especially in this holding ground.
Alazari, the outsider of the John Oxx pair according to the market, made a bold bid to record hissecond career win kicking a couple clear into the straight. These conditions looked ideal for the dual Listed placed colt this season who was fitted with blinkers again. He battled well when headed and should be able to resume winning ways in a similar race with some ease in the ground.
Hasanka, one of two fillies in the race and a Galway Listed winner last term, will appreciate better ground and a couple of furlongs further.
Ezima was held up before staying on under pressure on ground that wasn't ideal while Mount Nelson was never put in the race before plugging on in the closing stages. He looked another who will appreciate drying ground but whether he's retained the ability shown when winning the Group 1 Criterium in October 2006 is doubtful on this display.
Ferneley raced keenly up front before dropping right away while Jumbajukiba was ridden to get this longer trip but the recent Gladness winner failed to quicken after turning in when asked a serious question.
