Having run creditably when following home Celestial Halo and Franchoek in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham, WonIn The Dark was well entitled to hold a leading chance and he showed his liking for these conditions with a stylish victory. Having been settled in behind the front pair of Beau Michel and Franchoek, Won In The Dark was the only horse still travelling onthe bridle when he moved upsides the hard-driven Franchoek at the second last. Once kicked clear, he showed a fine turn of foot to put this race beyond any doubt and his ten-length victory marjin was anything but flattering. On just his eighth start, that's four wins now but this was his most notable success. A campaign geared towards the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham is now a possibility. He was given a quote of 25-1 by Boylesports and 33-1 by William Hill for the race. He would not have to improve a whole lot more to feature in some of the key trials next season.
Indian Spring came with his challenge into the straight but never looked like catching the winner. He put up perhaps his best performance of the season by having some decent opposition behind him and once again, the addition of blinkers seemed to help his cause.
The disappointment of the race was Franchoek, who never looked his usual self and this effort can be put down to the effects of a long hard season. He was under pressurequite a long way from home having been ridden prominently and it may be best to forget this run.
Personal Column could never get in any kind of a serious blow having put up a creditable performance in the Triumph Hurdle. C'est Ca was still travelling well when falling halfway down the back while Quevega could never get on terms with the leaders in her bid for a sixth successive win. [JOH]
