Kyalami led to 7th, close up, outpaced before 4 out, rallied next, no impression from 2 out
Brandy Wine prominent, effort 4 out, edged right and outpaced from next
Sands Rising raced wide, held up, ridden before 4 out, soon weakened
Posh Stick towards rear, struggling 5 out, never on terms
Astyanax jumped right 2nd, soon well behind, no chance final circuit
Roschal close up until ridden and every chance after 5 out, blundered next, weakened quickly
Sweet Memories behind, struggling 10th, tailed off when pulled up before 4 out
Lofty Leader in touch to 8th, soon weakened, pulled up before 10th
Analyis of the race
There was no mistaking the zest SPARKLING TAFF showed as he travelled through this race and, once sent about his business, he put the result beyond doubt with a decisive victory. He looks on good terms with himself at present.
Chopneyev, coming back after a couple of months off, ran a sound race, down in trip. He kept on again after being outpaced, but the winner was beyond recall.
Kyalami, making his first appearance for almost two years, ran with plenty of promise. If he comes out of this race and remains sound, there is every chance he can pay his way. Brandy Wine was always finding these going a stride too quickly for him.
