ARCEYE is one of those horses who either wins or fails to get round - at least that has been his profile for the past year or so - but he has gained some consistency of late and he completed a hat-trick here in emphatic fashion. His four previous wins had come at Chepstow, but this was his best performance to date and the ex-pointer has clearly never been better.
Baron Romeo, who won a bumper back in 2005 but struggled to make an impression over hurdles, had been beaten 91l on his chase debut behind Arceye at Chepstow four days prior to this and, though he fared better on this occasion, keeping on under pressure in the straight, he never looked like threatening the winner.
Top Dawn was the unlucky horse of the race. Raised 12lb for a recent Plumpton win, he was travelling best of all when ploughing through the seventh last and there was no recovery possible from that blunder. He can bounce back.
