HIGH JACK was reverting to hurdling after an unsuccessful campaign over fences, and showed his appreciation with a battling win, one which indicated that he will stay further in time. Trainer Andy Turnell sees the horse as a 3m chaser in the making, but says he is not yet strong enough to deliver on that promise. "He'll go back chasing next season when he's strengthened up," said Turnell.
Once, off the course for almost two months, was fitted with cheekpieces for this return to action - and his debut for trainer Carl Llewellyn - and turned in a fine effort under a positive ride. He was only reeled in on the run-in and he does not need to improve much on this effort to open his account.
Common Girl, who has struggled in recent seasons but has slipped down the weights as a result, had hinted at a return to competitiveness when fifth at Stratford last month and she got into the frame on this occasion. This was her first placing in two years, but it remains to be seen whether she can build on it and win in this grade, as her form is not in any way progressive.
Monash Lad, who won a seller last time, was given every chance but could not sustain hischallenge in the straight.
Blue Hills was too keen for his own good.
