Tyup Pompey chased clear leader from 4th, closed 2 out, led last, driven out
Fabulous Jet led, blundered badly and good recovery 1st, soon 15 lengths clear at good gallop, came back and headed last, no extra
Ashwell Lad held up towards rear well off the pace, went moderate 4th 4 out, jumped left final 3, stayed on well, nearest finish
Majorca prominent in chasing group, jumped left several fences, hard ridden approaching 4 out, effort next, one pace
Orrezzo disputed moderate 5th most of way, mistake 7th, never reached leaders
Master Ellis disputed moderate 5th most of way, no danger from 9th
Always Baileys jumped stickily in rear, soon well behind
Albarino took keen hold, chased clear leaders, mistake 4th, weakened 7th, soon behind, eased when no chance approaching 4 out
TYUP POMPEY, in receipt of a stone from the runner-up plus his rider's claim, was always chasing the leader and probably had the race set up for him in that respect. He had little chance on the ratings buthas gone well on this faster ground in the past and is likely to be kept on the go now.
Ashwell Lad was the only one to come from a long way off the pace on his chasing debut. On this evidence there might be one of these in him as he seems to handle this ground.
Majorcahad won on this sort of ground in the past so that is not an excuse and he is probably not the most consistent.
