Gala Evening held up in midfield, progress to go 2nd just over 2f out, closed to lead 1f out going easily, pushed clear
Legend Erry tracked leading trio, progress on outer to lead well over 2f out and kicked on, stayed on but headed and outpaced 1f out
Featherlight rider lost an iron briefly after start, held up in rear, effort but outpaced over 2f out, went modest 3rd over 1f out
Mister Completely steadied start, held up in last, outpaced over 2f out, plugged on
Coda Agency led to well over 2f out, weakened well over 1f out
Dhehdaah held up in midfield, effort on inner over 2f out, soon outpaced and beaten
Lorikeet tracked leader to over 3f out, weakened over 2f out
Irish Quest tracked leading pair, shaken up well over 2f out, lost place and weakened tamely
Legend Erry took it up straightening for home and beat the rest by a wide margin, so there is littlelikelihood of his new mark of 79 (17lb higher than for the first of three wins in the winter) being dropped.
Disappointment of the race was Irish Quest, who had been such a progressive stayer on turf last year but was making his AW debut here. He was a very warm order, but having raced handily on the rail he was readily brushed aside almost as soon as they straightened up and eased down as if something might have been troubling him.
