Speedy Sam soon led, ridden over 1f out, edged right and headed well inside final furlong

Royal Amnesty prominent, ridden over 2f out, stayed on

General Knowledge tracked leader, ridden and every chance from over 2f out, hung left over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong

Moonlight Man tracked leaders, ridden over 3f out, hung left and weakened over 1f out

GOLD PROSPECT has not really progressed since winning his maiden over this course and distance last summer, and has struggled to make an impression in handicaps over longer distances since. However, this was a much weaker event than the race he had contested on his reappearance at Kempton last month and he picked up well from off the respectable pace to win with a little bit in hand. On this evidence, he may still finish up being best-suited by 1m2f or further.

Speedy Sam, who had run no sort of race on soft ground at Pontefract last time, was much happier back on the all-weather and seemed to appreciate being allowed to bowl along in front. He found more when taken on by General Knowledge early in the straight and, though readily outpointed by the winner, this was easily his best effort for some time.

General Knowledge, having his first run since leaving Brendan Powell at the end of last year, was rather too keen for his own good and paid for it late on, but this outing should have brought him on.
