Royal Challenge tracked leader until ridden 2f out, no extra inside final furlong
RABBIT FIGHTER was always struggling from a bad draw at Pontefract last time, but he bounced back to his very best form here and, though his last three wins have been gained at 6f, he did win his maiden over the extended 1m here last spring and his connections reckon that 7f may well prove to be his best trip.
Methaaly, who had finished behind Obe Royal on his last two runs here, was now fitted with both an eye-shield and first-time blinkers and ran well in the headgear combination, reversing placings with the currently frustrating Obe Royal. He was forced to come wide to deliver his challenge and might well have won if he could have found a run through the centre.
Interactive, who has been racing off the pace, was given his head on this occasion and did not give up without a fight in the straight, but he had nothing more to offer late on and remains a maiden at the age of five.
Star Strider, who has not had much luck in running recently, again did not enjoy the clearest of runs, but he has never been an easy horse to win with and it could be costly to keep making excuses for him.
