RIVERSCAPE, a half-sister to the able but frustrating Bandama, was always up there and, turned for home, poised to challenge her market rival Pharaohs Queen. She initially looked as if she might struggle to get past, but she was just pushed out in the end, although a late burst from Valferno would have given her something to think about in another stride or two.
Mark Perrett said afterwards that he felt the winner would be suited by stepping up in distance.
Valferno was a springer in the market on her racecourse debut and showed plenty of promise, making up a good three lengths when she finally got the message in the final furlong, and flying at the finish. Pam Sly said afterwards that Valferno had given her a fraught time since arriving from Ireland, but pointed out that she has a nice pedigree on the dam’s side. She should improve with this experience under her belt.
The first three were well clear of Barring Decree, who had shown promise on her Polytrack debut at Lingfield, and L’Orage, who gave trouble at the start and raced in last most of the way.
