Analyis of the race

This was dominated by the newcomers who filled the first three places. TOP LOCK and Touchdown fought out the final half furlong and pulled nicely clear of Dance The Star, but the winner was always doing enough and his trainer appears to think a fair amount of him.

Very green in the early stages, the penny really dropped with him in the straight as he surged down the outside of the field. His trainer reported that he’d been improving in his homework recently and he thinks highly enough of him to beeyeing the Classic trial at Sandown's meeting at the end of the month.

Touchdown is a well-related newcomer and he ran a cracker here. He defied his lack of experience by racing professionally, as so many do from this yard, and he's clearly going to be winning races over middle distances.

Mahadee was stopped in his tracks about two furlongs out, before staying on again down the middle of the track. He'd have finished close with a clear but he was a bit too free in the early stages and he'll need to settle better to be effective over this sort of trip.

Riqaab made a sweeping move on the home turn but was soon in trouble and was a touch disappointing.
