Club Captain chased leaders, ridden to go 2nd 2f out, stayed on under pressure to close on winner throughout final furlong but never quite going pace to get up

Only If I Laugh in touch, chased leaders on inside from 3f out, kept on inside final furlong but never going pace to challenge

Prince Valentine held up in rear, headway over 2f out, stayed on final furlong but never going pace to challenge

Pajada chased leaders, ridden 3f out, weakened inside final furlong

Hester Brook in rear, headway on inside over 2f out, kept on same pace inside final furlong

Mutared in rear, stayed on final 2f, never in contention

Batchworth Blaise chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, weakened inside final furlong

Old Etonian slowly into stride, ridden 3f out, never in contention

Goodwood Spirit in touch, some headway 3f out, never in contention

Most of these find winning extremely difficult, including HEY PRESTO, but he's a horse that needs to be kept fresh and, off the track for 68 days prior to this, he bounced out and made every yard. The return to this trip helped, although he was all out to hold on in the closing stages, and he posted his first success since 2005.

Silver Blue finished the strongest of those held up off the pace, appreciating the drop into this class to run a much more encouraging race, but he’s winless since 2005.
