Diriculous chased leaders, shaken up over 3f out, led 2f out, soon ridden and hung left, ran on
Lethal in touch, soon driven along, headway over 2f out, ridden and edged left from over 1f out, ran on
Cerebus chased leaders, ridden over 1f out, stayed on same pace inside final furlong
Cool Sands soon outpaced, headway under pressure over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong
Toms Laughter disputed lead 4f, weakened final furlong
Steel Blue held up, ridden over 2f out, never dangerous
The Bear chased leaders to halfway
Count Cougar disputed lead until ridden 2f out, weakened over 1f out
Lethal, who is well-treated on his form of a year ago, struggled with the early pace and was then inclined to go left under pressure, but he turned in a solid effort to confirm recent course and distance placings with Cerebus and Count Cougar. However, he had shown his best form last spring when winning over 7f at Kempton and perhaps he needs that extra furlong to be seen to best effect.
Cerebus, who had lost ground at the start when third here last time, broke well on this occasion but was forced to race wide throughout from her wide draw and that possibly cost this well-exposed mare, who is handicapped right up to her best form.
Count Cougar showed good speed for four furlongs but he is handicapped up to the hilt these days and was left behind at the business end.
