SIR BILLY NICK, who ran green when third on his debut at Kempton 17 days previously, showed he had improved for that experience and opened his account. He was given a very strong ride, still looking green when hitting front entering the final furlong, and the longer trip was no doubt to his advantage. In good hands, he can make his mark in handicaps now.
Themwerethedays, behind Speyside when fifth on his debut at Wolverhampton 17 days previously, turned in an improved effort and readily reversed form with that rival. He has an ordinary maiden within his compass, but perhaps may be better suited by dropping back a furlong in the short term.
Mexican Venture, out the back on his debut, over 6f at Newmarket on his sole outing as a juvenile, proved very free to post and ran distinctly green through the early stages. He eventually posted an eye-catching effort, however, staying on strongly at the business end after meeting trouble in running. He has scope, should come on again a bundle for this experience, and evidently has a future.
Mezzanisi met support in the betting ring ahead of this seasonal return. He was ridden very patiently and still had it all to do turning for home, but he did little to help his rider by hanging when put under pressure. He stayed on with some purpose all too late in the day, and is clearly not the most straightforward, but he should benefit for the run at least. He also now becomes eligible for a handicap mark.
