Last October's promising Newmarket second TAWAASH was all the rage, and he took full advantage of his draw near the stands' rail, making just about all of the running and always doing enough when pressed by two promising newcomers through the last furlong. He won a shade comfortably and ought to go on to better things now.
Expresso Star showed bags of promise on the wide outside, coming from last place with a long run which got him virtually upsides the winner approaching the furlong marker, looking a big danger. He will come on for this and looks a sure-fire maiden winner in the near future.
So too does the filly Grande Annee, who came from mid field to try to challenge between the first two, who were wide apart. She was never quite getting there but was nicely clear of the others and is sure to improve for the run.
Wise Hawk, carrying the winning owner's second colours, was held up and followed Tawaash up the rail, where he was keeping on without making any impression. He is eligible for a mark now.
Theory is a half-sister to the smart Stronghold and she showed promise too. She had to be switched left when she was getting no run two out, and she kept on all right without being at all hard pressed.
Penchesco's juvenile form earned him a mark of 76, yet he was beaten around 10 lengths, never being any sort of a threat.
Carmela Maria, a half-sister to the useful sprinter Zowington, who won the previous race, dropped out after racingkeenly up the centre of the track, where she looked to be upsides the winner for much of the way. She definitely has ability, and she is now eligible for a mark.
Ian Mongan reported that Carmela Maria was unsuited by the ground.*Darryll Holland reported that Theory was too free.
