Sharp Nephew held up in touch, ridden well over 1f out, strong run 1f out, led inside final furlong, ran on well
Orientalist Art dwelt, held up behind on inner, ridden and headway just over 1f out, burst through horses inside final furlong, went 2nd near finish
Traphalgar with leaders until led 5f out, hard pressed and ridden 2f out, kept on well until no extra towards finish
Redolent led until 5f out, with leader after, driven 2f out, kept on same pace under pressure final furlong
Geezers Colours took keen hold, chased leaders, challenged 2f out, very chance until unable to quicken last 100yds
Solent Ridge took keen hold, tracked leaders on inner, ridden and effort over 1f out, every chance inside final furlong, no extra last 100yds
Mut´Ab steadied start, took keen hold, held up in rear, outpaced 2f out, rallied over 1f out, switched right inside final furlong, ran on but never able to challenge
King Hafhafah held up in last trio, ridden and effort over 2f out, no impression
Victory went to SHARP NEPHEW, who had been a little awkward before stalls entry but was straightforward in the raceand came through to lead inside the final furlong and held on.
He has all the entries, including the 2,000 Guineas, but the manner of his victory suggests the quote of 50-1 from Paddy Power is near the mark.
Orientalist Art may have been a little unlucky, as he was a little slowly into his stride and was held up towards the inside. He was just a little green when first asked for his finishing effort, but when the penny dropped he ran on well and may well have won in another few strides.
He can only improve further for this experience and should soon go one better in similar company.
Traphalgar was having his first outing since December, but his stable is very much in form and he was soon close up, then led 5f out until headed by the winner, and kept on well enough. He looks capable of winning at this level and is clearly well served by an all-weather surface.
Geezers Colours had run well in a Listed event over 7f here three weeks earlier and put up another sound effort, as he was soon in close contention and only started to fade inside the final furlong. He is a credit to his trainer and can soon return to winning form in a slightly lower grade.
Solent Ridge was a little keen but was another with a chance entering the final 2f, while Mut’Ab kept on again in the closing stages after being outpaced 2f out. He looks more than capable of losing his maiden tag.
