He was a little untidy at the start but was soon bowling along in the lead and, although pressed on both sides entering the straight, always looked in command and held on readily.
He looks a nice colt who can only improve further and next stop is likely to be the Victoria Cup at Ascot. He should not be unduly punished for this success and his trainer intimated that he does not necessarily have to make the pace and could prove even better when dropped in.
Yarqus was blinkered for the first time for this return to 7f and turned in a sound effort over what is probably a distance just short of his best. He was held up and was pushed along over a furlong out to make progress, but kept on well at the finish.
He has proved difficult to win with, but certainly looks capable of scoring off his present mark.
Farley Star was wellsupported and was soon chasing the leader and came through to stake her claim a furlong out, but could only keep on at the same pace. She is lightly raced and should have little trouble winning off her current mark in a slightly less competitive race.
Secret Night had returned to form with a victory in a fillies’ handicap over course and distance last time and put in a good effort, as she stayed on well in the closing stages after being brought towards the stands’ side to obtain her run.
She is clearly back in form and a similar raceagainst her own sex could be within her grasp shortly.
Lunces Lad was soon breathing down the neck of the winner from his outside draw and ran a creditable race on his first outing since September. He should come on for this and a little handicap can come his way in due course.
