Captain Webb with leader until led 3f out, soon ridden, joined 2f out, hung left inside final furlong, forged ahead last 100yds
Ballochroy chased leaders, headway to join winner 2f out, 1/2 length down and keeping on same pace when hampered and switched right inside final furlong, no chance after
No To Trident took keen hold, held up in last trio, effort on inner 3f out, no impression under pressure final furlong
Segal took keen hold, chased leaders, headway over 3f out, ridden over 2f out, outpaced and hung right 1f out
Bright Falcon reared leaving stalls, always behind, ridden and effort over 3f out, beaten when hung right 2f out
Quam Celerrime held up in last trio, ridden and lost touch 3f out
Shannersburg led until 3f out, soon weakened
Ballochroy, who had won on soft ground over a mile at Haydock last year, is bred to be suited by significantly further this time round and this was an encouraging start to her season. He was done no favours by the winner in the closing stages but was beaten on merit. However, time may show that he faced a stiff task in trying to give 3lb to the Johnston colt.
No To Trident, who got up close home to win a 1m2f Doncaster maiden last month, ran creditably off a high enough mark, reversing last season's York maiden placings with Bright Falcon. He is bred to be suited by further, and runs as if he will get at least 1m4f.
Bright Falcon, who had made most over a mile at York last October, lost ground by rearing up in the stalls here and then hung when asked for his effort 2f out. The ground may not have been right for him, but this was still a disappointing effort for a horse with entries in the Dante and Derby.
