MISSION IMPOSSIBLE had struggled a bit in handicaps last season, but he has evidently gonethe right way from two to three and picked up really well from the furlong mark to score in the style of a horse who will be at least as effective at 6f.
Monsieur Reynard, dropping back in trip after two runs over 7f on the all-weather, looked to have done everything right until just pipped in the final strides. He had the edge in fitness on several of his rivals here and it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his advantage once they reach their peak, so his connections will be keen to strike early with the gelding.
Select Committee, on his first run since August, hung throughout and may not have been suited by the soft ground.
Rio Sands, by a sire who liked the soft, ran well enough on this first outing in over five months to suggest he can pay his way off his present mark.
Dalarossie, free to post, showed plenty of early dash but dropped right away in the closing stages and the jury remains out on him; he had promised to win races when third at Chester last June, but has yet to deliver on that promise.
