Best race of the day, which is not saying much with the rest of the card class 5-6 races. This maiden's form revolved around the performance of top-rated horse atthe meeting, Andaman Sunset, but this 83-rated colt failed to shine and looks considerably overrated.
Connections of BOMBARDIER WELLS will hope the handicapper sees it that way. He ran without distinction in a couple of decent Newbury maidens lastbackend and saw out this slightly logner trip well, staying on when pressed to suggest he will get further. He has plenty of scope physically and is still considered a "big baby" by his trainer. The handicapper will determine his next assignment and he needs a sound surface when hitting the turf.
Maghya took the eye on this belated course debut. She travelled sweetly towards the rear before being angled wide around the home bend. Running green at that point, she picked up nicely into the final furlong but found the winner just finding a bit more to deny her a win that should soon follow.
Andaman Sunset found it all happening too quickly for him on this drop back in trip for his seasonal return. He hugged the inside and was never nearer than at the finish, galloping on strongly to pass the weakening front-runners Pasta Prayer and Dynamo Dave without threatening to land a blow. He looks sure to do better for this comeback run and a step up in trip but his rating looks steep on this showing.
Pasta Prayer may have benefited from being able to set the steady pace but he only gave way 100yds out to show considerably more than previously and he is not eligible for handicaps.Similar remarks apply to Dynamo Dave, who looks a sprinter in the making but has yet to run on turf.
Borrowdale was reported to have hung right.
