Fairy Festival pressed leader, led 2f out and kicked on, kept on final furlong, headed last 75yds
Ready To Crown held up in midfield, ridden and not quicken 2f out, not on terms after, stayed on final furlong to take 3rd near finish
Alucica held up in midfield, effort and progress to chase leaders over 1f out, kept on, not pace to challenge
Postmaster held up in rear on inner, effort over 2f out, staying on when switched left over 1f out, kept on final furlong
Zorn took keen hold, led, driven and headed 2f out, weakened final furlong
Kinsman took keen hold, tracked leading pair, lost place 2f out, one pace and no impression from over 1f out
Silver Blue held up, last over 3f out, ridden and no progress over 2f out, modest late headway
Winged Farasi slowly into stride, held up in rear, effort on outer over 2f out, soon no progress and beaten
Grey Gurkha slowest away, took keen hold and reached midfield halfway, ridden and steadily weakened from over 2f out
Butlers Best slowly into stride, always in rear, brief effort on outer over 2f out, soon weakened rapidly and eased, tailed off
Despite being a maiden, punters made HAVING A BALL favourite and were right to do so in this company. Well positioned throughout, he started his run at exactly the right time to gain that first success.
Fairy Festival, having her first run since October, tracked the early leader and gained a definite advantage when asked to win her race. She comfortably held off all her other rivals but found the late surge of Having A Ball too much to resist.
The next three crossed the line almost in unison and all ran virtually the same sort of race from off the slow early-pace. Ready To Crown got caught flat-footed when the tempo increased but was staying on well once finding his stride. Alucica was always towards the middle of the field and merely kept on after the front two had gone clear. Postmaster might have been the unluckiest of those in the bunch for third, as hedid not have a clear passage when required.
Kinsman was done no favours by the weakening Zorn in the latter stages and may have got a shade closer with an untroubled passage. Silver Blue was held up right off the pace and had no chance of getting on terms. This effort is best forgotten. Grey Gurkha was sweating in the paddock and did not really settle during the race.
