Golden Penny made virtually all, ridden along 2f out, soon joined and driven inside final furlong, stayed on gamely towards finish
Ogmore Junction tracked leaders, smooth headway over 2f out, challenged well over 1f out, soon ridden and every chance until driven and not quicken well inside final furlong
Director´s Chair close up, ridden along 3f out, driven over 2f out and soon one pace
Ivestar close up, ridden along well over 2f out, driven and weakened well over 1f out
Sharp Indian close up on outer, ridden along over 4f out, driven 3f out and soon weakened
Dickie Valentine always in rear
GOLDEN PENNY showed plenty of ability last season, and came into the race on a mark of 71. Making his all-weather debut, he jumped out well, made all and ran on well to hold the persistent challenge of the runner-up.
He clearly acts well on the surface, and may have a bit more improvement in him.
Ogmore Junction, having his first run for current connections and his first on this surface, stepped up on the form he showed in two runs as a juvenile. He travelled well but, despite running on, just lost out in a driving finish.
The pair were clear of Director's Chair, who raced in touch but could not quicken in the straight, and Ivestar, who was driven along turning for home and faded.
The latter had the best official figure but ran well below his mark of 82 and almost certainly needed the race.
Neither of the other two showed a great deal.
