Benfleet Boy tracked leader, closed to lead well over 1f out, driven and stayed on final furlong
Proud Killer led, crossed to near side but raced off the rail, ridden and headed well over 1f out, edged right but kept on
Poppets Sweetlove raced on outer, tracked leaders, effort over 2f out, easily outpaced from over 1f out
Mick Is Back took keen hold, held up behind leading pair against near side pair, driven and not quicken 2f out, beaten after
Mugeba held up in last pair, pushed along and effort on outer over 2f out, soon no progress and beaten
Pure Imagination held up in last pair, pushed along 3f out, struggling soon after
Proud Killer, fit from the AW, grabbed the rail from stall 5 and tried to make all, but BENFLEET BOY joined him around 2f out and soon asserted. This was Benfleet Boy's first run since his Polytrack win at Kempton for Brian Meehan 573 days previously, a fractured knee, which had to be screwed, having kept him off the track in the meantime.
He was nicely backed, however, and won decisively, despite Ryan Moore telling Brendan Powell that he hated the ground as he is such a good mover. He can go on to better things provided the Handicapper does not over-react.
Poppets Sweetlove, who raced onthe outside of the group was a respectable third, ahead of Mick Is Back, who came up the rail.
Pure Imagination, having his second start after a long break, was never really going but may simply have bounced.
