Hibou De Nuit raced far side, tailed off after 3f
In a race in which a couple opted to race up the far side for the first time allafternoon, the finish was dominated by fancied runners.
PRAVDA STREET won impressively and looks one to keep on the right side of, even allowing for the fact that he probably enjoyed an advantage racing hard against the stands' rail from stall 1. A fair second at Lingfield late last season, he represented a stable in good form and was nicely backed for a winning return. There were clearly no worries about his fitness, for having broken well he made all at a strong pace throughout and soon had themwell strung out.
Oarsman got within a length or so of him, but it had been hard work and Pravda Street came right away again to win in a time around 10 lengths quicker than recorded by the 70-rated selling winner (who carried just 5lb more) and significantly quicker too than that recorded by 74-rated 4-y-o Benfleet Boy half an hour later. His future is in the hands of the Handicapper, but he would be one to reckon with.
Glorious Gift had run twice on turf last summer, and his second at Haydock set the standard. Ridden more patiently than Oarsman, he took advantage when that one tired late on.
Bumper winner Bartercard, who had already raced twice this year, was never on terms but finished clear of the rest, who were headed by Polychrome, who was never really going but qualifies for a mark now, and Oarsman's stablemate Contrada, who was weak inthe market and was by no means knocked about.
A bit further back Sunny Spells caught the eye, despite being beaten a long way - he fell out of the stalls and then made late headway on what was probably the worst of the ground, on the wide outside of the stands' side group.
