Cooldine made all, ridden clear 2 out, eased close home
Ballycullen Boy soon chased leader, 3rd from before 5th, ridden before straight, kept on into 2nd before 2 out, no impression on winner, kept on same pace
Deal Maker chased leaders, improved into 2nd before 6th, ridden before straight, no extra in 3rd before 2 out, kept on same pace
Prudent Honour chased leaders, dropped to 8th halfway, ridden into moderate 5th 3 out, 4th and no impression before straight
Indifference Curve chased leaders, 2nd from before 5th, ridden in 4th and lost place 5 out, moderate 7th 3 out, one pace straight
Quintana chased leaders, 5th halfway, ridden in 4th and no extra before 3 out, weakened before 2 out
Swiftmarc towards rear for most, never a factor
Stand The Test always towards rear, tailed off
Scavenger chased leaders, dropped to 10th halfway, no danger after, tailed off
Rock Street held up, headway into 7th halfway, ridden in 6th and weakened 4 out, tailed off
Golden Kite always towards rear, tailed off
Jack The Bus tracked leaders, 6th halfway, ridden and weakened 5 out, pulled up after 3 out
Mr Muji always towards rear, pulled up before 6th
Mister Watzisname mid-division, ridden and weakened halfway, pulled up before 5 out
The remainder were chasing shadows from some way out, but runner-up Ballycullen Boy ran a highly creditable race on a rare foray over the smaller obstacles. He attempted to keep tabs on the winner most of the way. The winner was just too good, but we're likely to see the runner-up far more prominently over the coming months and options should be very open, indeed he has a good few pounds in hand with the handicapper over hurdles.
Deal Maker was the only other to make any kind of race of it. Versatile as to trip, he seems to be an improving individual. He attempted to chase the winner on the final circuit but his race was run three out and he could really only keep on at one pace while putting it up to the runner-up and finishing miles clear of everything else. He does have the tendency to make a couple of mistakes, but he does seem to be progressive and might possibly be good enough to win a Grade 3.
Prudent Honour was taking a huge step up in class after winning an ordinary Fairyhouse maiden hurdle but certainly wasn't disgraced. He raced handily and briefly attempted to close up halfway through the final circuit but was ridden and beaten from before the third last. It was a worthwhile exercise, whether he got the trip is questionable.
Quintana went in pursuit of the leaders on the final circuit but was under pressure and beaten before the fourth last. He should continue to improve as the ground dries out.
Scavenger was very disappointing, and seems to be one of those rare Presentings that want very deep ground. He ran nowhere near the form that saw him challenging the winnner when falling two out here in January and was beating a retreat from halfway down the back straight.
Jack The Bus was struggling from early on the final circuit and was pulled up three out, while both Mr Muji and Mister Watzisname ran appallingly, the former being pulled up a circuit out, while the latter was beaten at halfway and was pulled up early on the final circuit.
Mr Muji was reported by his rider to have never travelled in the race. The rider of Mister Watzisname reported that his mount had lost his action and felt slightly lame before being pulled up. [JOH]
