China Gold tracked leaders, effort over 3f out, narrow lead 2f out, pushed out and stayed on well
Perkin Warbeck taken down early, tracked leaders, led on outer 4f out, driven and headed 2f out, kept on but readily held by winner
Wandering Minstral held up in last pair, progress on wide outside over 4f out, close up 3f out, ran green and faded over 2f out
Kentford Serotina took keen hold, held up in touch, smooth progress to press leaders over 3f out, weakened over 2f out
Lordy in touch in rear to 4f out, soon weakened
Henry Beauclerc took keen hold, led at steady pace to halfway, stayed prominent, ridden 4f out, soon beaten
Lustara prominent, led 5f out to 4f out, weakened 3f out, virtually pulled up near finish
Corton Copse pressed leader, led halfway to 5f out, weakened rapidly 4f out
A relatively cheap purchase, King’s charge is out of a mare who hadn’t previously produced a winner, but China Gold travelled well under a patient ride before easing into contention and breezing by the once-raced Perkin Warbeck. He looks a nice prospect.
Perkin Warbeck, who entered the parade ring already mounted, confirmed the promise of his Stratford second on debut. He just bumped into an above-average newcomer, but pulled a long way clear of the rest and clearly has significant ability.
Kentford Serotina travelled into the race well, but she found next to nothing when push came to shove.
