Haar took keen hold, tracked leaders, not fluent 3 out, slightly outpaced and shaken up soon after, progress to chase leader 2 out, led and blundered last, held on
Hope Road tracked leader, hit 3rd, narrow lead 3 out, ridden after next, headed last, pressed winner all the way to line, just held
L´Homme De Nuit held up in touch, tracked leaders 3 out, not much room and switched right before 2 out, soon left behind by leading pair
Flying Grey led, set steady pace to 4th, mistake 3 out and headed, weakened before 2 out
High Profit held up in touch, tracked leaders 3 out, ridden and weakened before next
Gertie mistake 1st, tracked leading pair to 4th, soon lost place, struggling in last pair from next
Katie Kingfisher held up in last, jumped awkwardly 2nd, lost touch from 5th, tailed off in last when pulled up before 2 out
Quelclasse tracked leaders, close up 3 out, soon ridden and weakened tamely, well beaten 6th when pulled up before 2 out
Haar had been outpaced leaving the back, but he rallied well once straightening up for home, and although he clouted the last, he didn’t lose too much momentum and stayed on strongly to edge out Hope Road.
Andy Turnell, whose team are in sparkling form at present, regards the winner very much as a chaser and he’ll be turned out for the summer now.
Hope Road did very little wrong in defeat, kicking on turning for home and going down fighting. He will doubtless find one of these soon, but he does appear to have his limitations.
Flying Grey, who increased the pace down the back, is pretty exposed as modest and he was readily brushed aside, but of much more interest for the future is High Profit, who looks a grand chasing type, typical of many in his yard. He already looks ready for fences.
The veterinary office reported that Quelclasse had sustained an injury to a foreleg, while the jockey of Katie Kingfisher reported that his mount lost a front shoe.
