This was an above-averaged size field for the Brocklesby, and the vast majority of runners came towards the stands side. SALLY’S DILEMMA, trained by Bill Turner, who has a great annual record with his early season juveniles, clearly knew her job and was fit. Having taken the field along to beyond halfway, she was then headed by the runner-up, but she fought back well and appeared to win with a little bit in hand. She can score again.
Doncaster Rover ran a sound race in defeat. He headed the winner two furlongs out, but was then worried out of it towards the finish. He finished clear of the rest and should gain compensation.
Knavesmire shaped really well in third, picking up from halfway and seeing her race out in nice style, albeit without being able to reel in the first two.
Of the others, Calypso Girl, despite looking very backward in her coat, showed some ability, while Saxford, one of only two to race on the far side of the track, and largely isolated, was far from disgraced in the circumstances.
Nchike, who was slow to stride, did well to finish in midfield, while Mr Melodious, who looked professional in the preliminaries, could never figure in the business end, and Shadow Bay was on the stretch from halfway. (TOR)
