CANADIAN DANEHILL had run creditably in the face of stiffish tasks in Dubai earlier this year but was reportedly not ideally suitedby the surface there. He handles Fibresand very well and made it four wins from eleven visits to this track with a game effort; always to the fore and leading well inside the final furlong. He had never won off a mark this high previously and will go up again for this, though connections hope his turf mark is not affected. He is clearly in the form to give a good account in the early weeks of the grass season.
Northern Empire had every chance well inside the final furlong but edged right and was just held. He is an improved performer this year and is still progressing.
Classic Encounter was having his first run on this surface and showed he handles it as well as he does Polytrack and turf; leading until well inside the final 1f. This was a decent effort on his first run for seven months and he ought to give another good account next time.Fyodor suffered only his second defeat in four races over this course and distance, but was bumped at the start and slow in to his stride, so is a shade better than the bare form.
The well-weighted Lusciviouswas outpaced on this first run of the season but not disgraced, while Tartatartufata is plenty high enough in the weights now.
Cape Royal, who is from a stable on a losing run and tracked the pace to over a furlong out, and Godfrey Street had the worst of the draw on the stands' side. It was probably no coincidence that they occupied the last two positions and are probably both worth another chance.
