Cap St Jean, who had been running creditably at around a mile last autumn and had subsequently been tried over hurdles, was another who was doing his best work at the finish after struggling with the hot pace set by Guadaloup, for whom the game was up turning for home. This is clearly a minimum trip for him.
Cabourg was poorly drawn and turned in a solid effort in the circumstances, but Attacca was never a factor and this was disappointing after his reappearance third at Southwell last week. Perhaps this second run in eight days came too soon for him.
