A fair gallop to this competitive handicap hurdle which was eventually won in facile style by SOUFFLEUR. However, that only tells a fraction of the story, for early on after hitting the first, he wasn't going, wasn't jumping and was tailed off. Making smooth headway in the final mile, he led after the last and drew clear on the bridle to win with plenty in hand. Although he doesn't look entirely straightforward, he's clearly got plenty of ability and is well handicapped at present on a mark of 120. He stays further, and should continue to progress.

Hi Cloy, 21lb better in over hurdles compared to fences, ran a sound enough race in second after travelling well, and should pick up a similar contest.

Haggle Twins also did well, racing up with the pace and keeping on. He handles plenty of cut, so this was an encouraging start to his season.

Mirjan was never going, but kept plugging away; he ran well enough to suggest he can still win over hurdles.

Dancing Lyra did better than his placing, for he was a close third and in with every chance when he blundered badly at the last.

Spring Breeze never featured on ground that wasn't ideal for him. The unexposed Oceanos Des Obeaux travelled up well after four out, but dropped out pretty quickly in the straight.
