They didn't go a great pace, but the well-backed Knightsbridgelives was able to come from last to first and go two or three lengths clear in the straight, looking sure to win.He then appeared to idle, however, and two rivals that he appeared to have taken care of rallied to threaten him again inside the final furlong, LORD CREWE, who was under pressure and going the worst of the trio turning in, getting up right on the line to snatch an unlikely victory.
A Flat-bred gelding by Sinndar, Lord Crewe now heads for a bumper at Cheltenham next weekend and then on to the Doncaster sales a couple of days later.
Knightsbridgelives clearly enjoyed this surface much betterthan the heavy Uttoxeter going on which he made his debut, but with hindsight he may have been in front too long. He ought to win a similar race.
The first three finished clear of ex-Irish Flight Dream, who ran below new connections' expectations, and Pikasso, who looks the right type but probably needed this first run. They in turn were clear of the mare Drumroe, who was being pushed along at the back of the field on the far turn but passed several runners down the hill and didnot look a hopeless case despite the margin of her defeat.
