Blue Citadel settled in midfield, progress 3f out, chased leader 2f out, hard ridden and closed final furlong, lost 2nd near finish and just held
Little Toto tracked leader, led over 4f out to over 3f out, chased leader to 2f out, weakened over 1f out

Leamington tracked leaders, ridden over 2f out, weakened over 1f out
Insomnitas chased leaders, ridden and in touch over 2f out, soon weakened
Fort Hull dwelt, soon pushed along in rear, weakened 3f out
Imperial Mark raced freely, led, came wide and headed over 4f out, soon weakened
Dancing Ellie started slowly, always behind, tailed off 3f out
Border Owl started slowly, always behind, tailed off final 3f
Valentine Blue dwelt, always in rear, tailed off when pulled up over 2f out, dismounted
It was a task that Rattan seemed set to come through with flying colours for most of the home straight, but, having been clear half a furlong out, he was caught on the line by COOL JUDGEMENT.
The fact that Blue Citadel was also running him down suggests that Rattan was emptying close home, and that fact, allied to him drifting right in the final few strides, caused his defeat. On better ground, Rattan will very likely stay at least this far next season, and so will the winner, who really clicked as to what was expected of him inside the final furlong. Third on his debut at Newmarket, he flopped badly here when pulling hard at the Glorious meeting, but settled much better on this occasion and reaped the reward. He will very probably be no better than a handicapper, but he should still be interesting in that sphere next season.
Little Toto was beaten a long way, buthe was up there from some way out, and so did not run badly. He will come into his own in handicaps, as will many of those behind, including Highly Regal, who shaped well second time out, and Leamington, who is surely better than he showed here. He might well have not handled the ground.
