Analyis of the race

This looked open, but very few got into it. They raced in two groups, with five coming up the stands' side while the rest raced up the centre. While the winner came from the bigger group up the middle, there seemed to be no bias, for the second and fourth both came from the stands' side quintet. There were question marks over many of the principals, and the form probably isn't the strongest by Ascot standards.

Former Group 2-winning juvenile GODFREY STREET, second off 86 here a year ago, had not shown much in two runs for new connections following his belated return to action but had been given a big chance by the handicapper off 77. Revitalised by the first-time blinkers, he showed excellent speed throughout and was clear in the final furlong despite edging left. He could still be well treated when reassessed, so if the headgear works again he might well follow up.

Brunelleschi was in good form in the spring, when he completed a hat-trick over 6f, and he came back refreshed from a seven-week break. He 'won' the nearside race, and although he never looked like getting to grips with Godfrey Street, this was an encouraging effort. A return to 6f will not hurt.

Rebel Duke, who had been off even longer, showed up well on the far side of the pack and ran all right, as did top-weight Don Pele, who ran on after getting outpaced.

However, nothing particularly took the eye further back and this was not a race to take too many positives from.

Hadden Frost reported that Black Moma had no more to give.
