Mister Completely came into this off the back of a dreadful effort at Warwick, but he handled the ground well and come home strongly to snatch second, bouncing right back to something like his best. He is back on his last winning mark.
Squadron, a dual 1m6f winner earlier in the season, ran well off this mark at Salisbury last week and it was no surprise to see him run well in ground he handles. This effort suggested he is still progressing.
Baan failed to improve for first-time blinkers on his previous run and this hike up in trip looked a last resort. He ran quite well, having been up there from an early stage, but has not won for two years and that run is likely to continue.
Last Flight, a 2m winner in heavy ground earlier in the season, stays all day and should really have shone under these conditions. The first-time visor failed to bring any improvement.
Sweetheart, off the same mark as when not beaten far at Bath last time, travelled well into contention, but she could not race on when it mattered and remains winless in handicaps.
Esprit De Corps, not seen since finishing fourth in a 2m5f handicap at Glorious Goodwood, is fine in the ground and should really have done better, being strongly ridden turning into the straight before being eased off.
Hawridge King has been running well in defeat and is another who should have done better in ground he handles. (MB)
