This is CORNUS's best trip, although he was without his usual rider (who claims 3lb) and the softish going wasn't ideal. He'd been ninth of 17 in this last year - Gilded Cove 14th, and tenth today - but has been in good heart of late.
He was tucked in among horses before coming with a late rattle, and he takes his racing well so may be out again soon with a penalty.
Steel Blue has won on soft and was off a lower mark than for his last three victories. He raced prominently andtravelled well for most of the race, but could not match the winner's turn of foot in the final 100 yards.
Dualagi is more effective over 5f, but she finished clear of Tipsy Prince.
Farefield Lodge had run pretty well the last twice over this trip on good ground and was blinkered for the first time. They did not bring about an improvement in his fortunes, though.
**John Egan, the rider of Romany Nights, reported that the gelding moved poorly throughout.
**Fergus Sweeney, the rider of Tipsy Prince, reported that the gelding missed the break.
