Pippa Greene held up, raced wide and headway 8f out, led over 1f out, ridden clear final furlong, edged right, just held on
Harry Tricker held up, headway over 2f out, ridden to chase winner and edged left over 1f out, hung right inside final furlong, stayed on
Sugar Ray led after 1f, ridden and headed over 1f out, stayed on same pace
Always Fruitful chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, soon outpaced, stayed on under pressure inside final furlong
Prince Sabaah tracked leaders, ridden over 2f out, soon weakened
Music Review chased leader, ridden over 2f out, weakened over 1f out
Pippa Greene preserved his unbeaten record under Frankie Dettori who committed him well over a furlong out. That proved a crucial moment, as the manoeuvre gave the favourite the cushion he needed to resist the late thrust of his equally promising rival.
Pippa Greene's racecourse visits have been spaced out since his debut win at Lingfield and he's had his niggling problems, but such is his size and scope that Paul Cole can look forward to handling a Listed-class horse next year, at the very least.
Harry Tricker landed an uncompetitive handicap at Goodwood but then defied his penalty in style and showed here that a 6lb rise had not hampered his progression. He made up three lengths in the final furlong and a bit, and with another few strides would have made it very interesting.
The remainder were in trouble some way out and it was a good gap back to Always Fruitful who has steadily declined in the last year.
