Itsmyboy held up in mid-division, headway 10th, jumped right 13th, led last, driven out
Highglen jumped right, always prominent, led and blundered 4 out, headed last, stayed on
Tanners Court took keen hold, headway 3rd, led 5th, jumped right 7th, headed 4 out, weakened after 2 out
Friendly Request held up and behind, hampered 13th, weakened after 4 out
Royal Hilarity held up and behind, steady headway 8th, weakened after 3 out
Honourable Collins always behind, tailed off
Willies Way prominent, weakening when mistake and bumped 13th, tailed off
Patsy Bee held up in touch, lost place approaching 10th, mistake 12th, soon struggling, tailed off
Jolly Joe led to 5th, chased leader until jumped slowly 10th, weakening when blundered and unseated rider 11th
This beginners' chase revolved around how ITSMYBOY, who was the best of these over hurdles, handled fences on his chasing debut and the ground which would have been softer than ideal. Apart from a tendency to dive right at some fences he was pretty good except where he seemed to collide with another runner at one down the far side. He was effectively nursed home in the straight but was idling on the run in. He has the ability to win more of these as long as that talent can be harnessed in a positive way.
Tanners Court was always likely to be a target for the others to aim at on his first try over fences and so it proved. His front-running style will always make him vulnerable at this game.
Friendly Request did not win that often over hurdles but could be a shade better at this game if this debut effort can be taken at face value as he had no chance with the front three officially, but was withthem on the home bend and there is a poor heat over fences in him at some stage.
