AYA did particularly well to defy the penalty she picked up for winning on her debut at Towcesterlast month.
Subsequently ninth in a much hotter mares' event at Cheltenham, she very likely needed to run only to a similar level to win, but this bargain-basement buy has a positive attitude and should be capable of winning a novice hurdle.
Finbar's Pi, a half-brother to 1999 Grand National runner-up Blue Charm, stayed on pleasingly when fourth on his Fontwell introduction, and there was plenty more promise on show, but what was worrying was the way he hung under pressure and appeared to duck in behind the winner once the going got tough.
Lord Appeallare, well backed beforehand, was running in his fourth bumper but what he did here seemed to be more of a regression than a progression on past runs.
Perdiem was a disappointment but he was not asked to move forwards when the race began in earnest entering the final mile and suffered accordingly.
