Analyis of the race

This was not a great race but it was a memorable one for Frankie Fairchild, who, on his first ride, gave his mount GARSTON STAR great assistance to make all to win. Third to Silistra at Fontwell in March, the horse was helped by the step up in trip here but, to be fair, he would have won this over any distance given the astute performance of his pilot.

In a race in which very few got competitive, Silistra was the only horse to come from off the pace to land a blow. Presumably, held up in a bidto get the trip, he seemed to stay, although it's hard to be certain as he was beaten such a long way.

New Time was a major disappointment, but there is no doubt that he would have finished fourth but for his rider changing from the accelerator to the brake 50 yards from home. He told the stewards he had eased down because his mount made a noise.
