Batchworth Beau mistakes, led 2nd to 5th, narrow lead after 6th, drew clear 2 out, driven out flat
Three Ships not always fluent, left in lead 1st, headed next, led 5th until after 6th, driven and held before 2 out, not quicken
Grand Welcome mistakes, held up in last, chased leading pair 5th, weakened after mistake next, tailed off
Effusion driven and reluctant 3rd, last from 5th, soon well tailed off
Zimbabwe led, broke down just before 1st, pulled up after it
In the absence of the stricken favourite, this was a desperate event. The 86-rated BATCHWORTH BEAU had not raced for 157 days, but he had scored in a similar claiming contest here in October and he followed up despite walking through the final two flights.
Three Ships, officially 17lb superior to Batchworth Beau, was comprehensively beaten.
