PHLUKE asserted his superiority in the last 100 yards to show that - for all the fact that he has done mostof his winning on fast ground - he is also fully effective on an easy surface.
The winner was scoring off his highest mark to date, but there may yet be more to come from a horse who still races with plenty of enthusiasm.
The more exposed Hiccups, up 4lb for a recent Southwell win, kept on from off the pace without ever quite threatening Phluke and the handicapper may be getting his measure now.
Roman Maze, who ended a long losing run when scoring at Windsor last month, stayed on from well off the pace for a never-nearer fourth. Faster ground may suit him better.
