Northgate Lodge close up, led after 1f, ridden along 2f out, soon headed and gradually weakened

Bank On Bertie led 1f, close up until ridden and weakened final 2f

Rievaulx Valentino closed up, ridden along over 2f out and soon weakened

The ground was riding fast. This wasn't a strong novice event, and it went to the only previous winner in the field, THUNDER BAY, who had won on Polytrack on his debut, and shaped well when second at Newcastle last week. Although drawn wide, as he was at Newcastle, he took this in decisive fashion, drawing away in the final furlong after travelling well. He's going the right way. Geordie Girl ran on to take second, shaping with a degree of promise on her debut.

Northgate Lodge was behind the winner at Newcastle, and never looked likely to reverse the form, and although the newcomer Rievaulx Valentino was the subject of some market support, he ran disappointingly, dropping right away in the last 2f to finish last.
