Kid Mambo set a good pace and to his credit kept on to finish a clear second. He appears just as effective on this going as in the soft, an important factor for a trainer mapping out a plan of attack. He holds the Dante engagement and is in the Derby.
Monzante hails from a stable whose runners are thinner on the ground than normal but gave his connections the evidence that he is just as effective on turf as on the all-weather by keeping on well. He is open to improvement and the same remark applies to Duke Of Tuscany, whose effort to trouble the judge might nevertheless leave connections perplexed about an optimum distance for him.
Medicine Path's run has to be viewed as disappointing. Boasting frame finishes in both the Royal Lodge and the Racing Post Trophy, he was far too keen for his own good and failed to give himself the chance to get the trip.
