Major Jon led, ridden and headed 3 out, not much room last, weakened flat

Pop Gun prominent, chased leader 4th to next, ridden and weakened 2 out

Benefit Fund prominent, ridden after 5th, soon weakened

Sheriff´s Deputy raced keenly, tracked leader, hung right approaching 3rd, lost place next, mistake and weakened 5th

Rosemary´s Fancy prominent, ridden 4th, weakened next

Gawrosz soon behind, tailed off when pulled up before 2 out

Typically weak, but a thrilling finish as course specialist and confirmed stayer Blackthorn tried to see off the mare KILDEE LASS. There was very little between the pair approaching the last, where the winner wasn’t fluent, but she was stoked up by her jockey and asserted in he final 100 yards. She doesn’t look entirely straightforward but she was returning from a 320-day absence and both of her previous wins have come on sharper tracks and better ground, so there may be more to come from her.

Blackthorn reserves his best over this course and distance and is a reliable performer in this grade. He did remarkably well given he was conceding so much weight to the winner.

Pop Gun fared little better than when weakening away tamely at Chepstow on seasonal return and remains best watched until showing more.
