All eyes here were on Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Genghis whowas making his debut over fences, but in BOB HALL he more than met his match and Jonjo O’Neill’s lightly raced gelding stepped up on what was a highly promising debut over fences behind Mr Pointment to win this doing handstands. Noel Fehily was happyto let Genghis kick on from the front but he began to close down the back and a series of slick jumps saw him sweep by Genghis over the second-last fence. He powered clear without ever really being asked for any significant effort. Only his sixth career start, he is clearly going the right way and his fluent jumping will stand him in good stead.
Magot De Grugy didn’t do anything to suggest he was returning to form, weakening away, while Curraheen Chief at least made it round this time but was never in the hunt. This will at least have helped restore his confidence.
