POSITANO, who had a stiffish task at the weights when third in a Newton Abbot claimer at the start of the week, appreciated the return to selling company and, after some fair efforts this season, finally broke his duck at the 12th attempt. He did so with some authority, despite showing a tendency to hang in the closing stages, and the task for him is to build on this performance.

Silver Island, who won a banded race over 5f last year and subsequently showed form at up to 7f, had not shown muchin three runs over hurdles but ran creditably from a low weight on this handicap debut, though his stamina looked to be giving out on the run-in.
