Analyis of the race

This was another finish like a heavy-ground three-mile chase, but MACORVILLE, brought out four days after a fine run to finish fourth in a York handicap, loved the conditions and won as he pleased. The winner is a grand type with plenty of scope whose campaign will be planned around where he gets soft ground. He is likely to be stepped up to a mile and a half.

The rest could not raise a gallop in the last two furlongs or so, but Wild Fell Hall, Decree Nisi and Naval Hero warrant another look on proper racing ground.
