THE OUTLIER is comparatively lightly raced for a nine-year-old and on this evidence is an improving animal this term. Kept to the inner throughout he was cajoled into contention by Sam Thomas and was the only serious challenger to Terivic as they turned in. He gradually wore down the long-time leader, jumping to the front at the final fence and galloping on strongly up the run-in. He is clearly in good heart at present and, although likely to be bumped up in the weights for this, he could have more in the locker.

Terivic ran a cracking race in defeat, and finished some way clear of the of the remainder. He has run well here before and is well handicapped at present but he does like to dominate and tends to throw the towel in pretty early if hedoesn’t get his own way.

Runaway Bishop loves it here but looks in the grip of the handicapper onthis evidence.
