Course winner SPEED VENTURE came into this off the back of a victory in a 17-runner handicap at Bangor, and he is clearly in great heart. The handicapper shouldn't be too harsh, but he will raise him for this.
Misbehaviour could have been expected to improve for his run at Folkestone last month following a break, and duly did so. He can go onebetter soon.
Elegant Clutter, a 50-1 winner at Bangor on his previous start in October 2003, ran a fantastic race on his return, and all credit to his trainer.
Lankawi and Polar Passion were making their handicap debuts, with the former looking to have the better chance on form, though whether he deserved to start favourite was another matter. He plugged on for fourth, while Polar Passion was pulled up.
Imperial Royale had won a less competitive handicap than this at Leicester at the beginning of the month, and it showed.
Triple course-and-distance winner Haditovski is dropping to a realistic mark but he could do with further assistance from the handicapper and ran poorly anyway.
Barton Gate's three victories have all come over this course and distance, but he was well below par this time.
